Buying music hard on mobiles

Buying digital music from a mobile phone is too difficult and the music and mobile phone industries need to improve the process to meet demand, the chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group Corp. said on Wednesday.

“Buying a ring tone is an example of the complexity people can face. On average, users must click 20 times in a process that takes around two minutes to buy a ring tone,”

Well that makes me think that with the exception of creating and sending a text message our system is pretty click light for the users.

WAP push > click to connect (1)
Download link > click to initiate (2)
Save / store / set as ringtone > click to agree (3)

While I agree in essence that music downloads to mobile phones are slow and many providers have dreadful systems for the user to navigate that’s down to poorly compressed files, slow connections and ignorance on the providers part for not taking the time to run tests as consumers to see how their system plays the game.

It’s all about the end user and how they value the product, if they have a poor user experience they’ll bypass that store the next time, worse still it could put them off the mobile internet if they have that bad a time.

It’s just another article that reminds me how great the need is for a simplified mobile internet based click and buy system….
